Friends,

In October of 2009, I made a promise to myself, my family and the city I call home. I promised to do everything in my power to bring an end to the tax and spend mentality that was destroying our economy and causing jobs to disappear. Since that time, our unemployment rate has climbed as high as 12% here in Louisville, and the spending has continued unabated. Congressman Yarmuth and others in Congress have ‘doubled-down’ on their attempt to spend us into prosperity with a horrible health care bill, further attempts to push Cap and Trade legislation, and requests for still more ’stimulus’ spending.

I promised to do everything in my power to bring a spirit of honor and accountability into government. Not perfection, but integrity. Government has strayed too far from the checks and balances our founders worked hard to incorporate into our system. And the scales have tipped still further since last fall. Back-room deals, exceptions traded for votes, jobs offered in trade for elections, dead of night political maneuvering, and the misuse of taxpayer dollars through slipped-in earmarks have all become par for the course in Washington.

I promised to do everything in my power to reign in our debt. Its increase since the current administration took power has thrown up warning signs from around the world. Greece has traveled that road, and others, in Europe and elsewhere, face similar challenges. Yet Congressman Yarmuth and our Democrat Congress have continued to raise our debt ceiling and spend as much as they can, to the detriment of our financial security.

I am honored to be your candidate for the 3rd Congressional District of Kentucky, and I am humbled by the show of support I have seen from this community over these last 9 months. I thank you all for guiding me through the Republican primary, and I pray that I can live up to every promise I have made. I can only do that, however, with your continued support.

The message that I carry was passed down to me through my family, and that same message draws people from around the world to our nation: in America, liberty triumphs over tyranny, opportunity is available to all, and government is accountable to its citizens. This message has cultivated the most prosperous and generous nation in the history of the world, but that message is being threatened daily.

You have nominated me to represent your voice, and I will represent you well, but this message must reach every citizen, and for that your contributions to this campaign are needed. I am not a rich man, but I have offered up my savings for this cause, and I need all who believe in the America that I believe in to contribute whatever they can before the end of June. We have much to accomplish in a very short time; please help us reach every citizen of our district with this message.

Finally, please join us tomorrow morning, 10am, at the county party headquarters (4710 Champions Trace, behind the old Bashford Manor Mall) for a volunteer meeting. Refreshments will be provided.  A few hours a week can make a world of difference, so please volunteer if you are able. Together, we will turn our country back on its course to greatness.
