February has been a very busy month for the campaign. I have been meeting people all over the district. Again and again I have heard their concerns about the excesses in federal government spending, taxation and regulation. Voters recognize that the current lack of sound fiscal policy is adversely affecting Louisville and them personally. My message of less government intervention in our lives and businesses is resonating well with these frustrated citizens.

My campaign headquarters is just off Bardstown Road in the Highlands. As I look out the window daily, I have seen an ever-growing number of empty storefronts along this formerly bustling corridor. We continually read about one business after another closing their doors for good. Smith’s Furniture, a Louisville leader in the furniture business for decades has been forced to close. Kentucky Kingdom is closing with the potential loss of over a thousand jobs. Even giant UPS, a company many viewed as recession-proof, is laying off 300 pilots and even more maintenance personnel. Humana, one of the highest paying companies in Louisville is furloughing 750 people. These are not just jobs, these are peoples’ careers. Our neighbors are getting their pink slips and the rest of us are worried about our own jobs.

The Democrats are still trying to blame someone else and refuse to take ownership for the ever-increasing damage they are doing to our economy. We can’t borrow our way out of this mess. They are scheming to raise your taxes in so many ways. Remember, the government doesn’t raise money any other way. They only take it from someone else. THAT SOMEONE ELSE IS YOU.

Many successful longtime Democrats, like our neighbor Sen. Evan Bayh, are defecting from their party’s leadership and the destructive Obama agenda. They are not seeking re-election because they know the taxpayers will hold them accountable for these policy failures and the resulting economic pain. The remainder, like Rep. John Yarmuth, continue to re-arrange the deck chairs on the Titanic. He and the rest of the progressives are so out of touch that they expect to be easily re-elected after demanding that small business owners absorb more huge tax increases.
